Bridging the Gap

ATA Architects Inc. was given a challenge: create a functional and cost effective design solution for the Kelso/Glen Eden Pedestrian Overpass, taking into account key concerns such as durability, low maintenance and a limited budget. Naturally, ATA exceeded expectations.

To anchor the structure that would connect the main parking areas to the ski hill, ATS created a contemporary tower that took inspiration from early railroad station design. The linked bridge features glass walls (offering panoramic views of the picturesque grounds) and a vaulted translucent polycarbonate roof that flood the span with light. The green design ensures that air circulates through the slatted cedar and glass walls, providing natural ventilation and omitting the need for any mechanical system. Materials such as wood and stone blend in with the setting and further support green building principles.
