Downtown Oakville Streetscape and Urban Design Guideline Study

ATA led a multi-disciplinary team that proposed guidelines that continue to be used to date for both public and private sector improvements in one of Ontario’s most successful B.I.A.’s.

As part of the study, consultant team proposed closing of George Street in conjunction with a proposed redevelopment site to create a central public space in the downtown. The guidelines were faithfully followed by the eventual developer. The resulting Town Square received an Urban Design Award from the municipality. The architect of record for the redevelopment project was Stone Kohn McGuire Vogt Architects. The square is utilized year round from jazz festivals to Christmas Carols around the Town’s Christmas tree.
